Firerock Geyser at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Photographic Innoventions by Scott Thomas

The beauty of Walt Disney World is you can enjoy the parks and the resorts. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge has so much to offer from a romantic dining experience at Artist Point, fun (and I mean really fun) family dining at Whispering Canyon, details to discover in the spacious lobby and a surprise by following the flowing spring. The spring starts in the lobby and flows out to Silver Creek Falls. People can slide from the falls into the swimming pool. Make your way along the boardwalk path to the hot springs (jacuzzis), you will come across a sign informing you of Firerock Geyser. If you ask one of the Wilderness Lodge’s rangers, they will tell you the geyser erupts every half hour.

Unlike the geyser’s out west, Disney Motor Cruisers were bringing guests to and fro on Bay Lake behind Firerock for unique photo opportunities.

I processed these photos to look like the vacation photos I remember seeing from people who had visited Yellowstone National park as a kid. Brought back a little nostalgia remembering sitting through relative’s slideshows of their adventures in the western Untied States.

  1. We had ADR for WCC on 2/9 so this post was quite timely. We made it a point to find the geyser and see it erupt. Our kids age 6,8, & 8 thought it was fantastic! As many times as we’ve been to WDW, we love discovering new things.

Scott replies: Glad I could point out a cool experience for you and your family. I know, it is amazing all the details at the Walt Disney World resort which are there for the discovering.

  2. I too thought that it had a very cool 1960’s look. You definitely have peeked our interest into trying the DWL out… except for one thing THE KIDS WILL BE WITH US!!!

Scott replies: This is a Disney resort and there are a lot of things for the kids to see and do. If you have not tried the Whispering Canyon Cafe for a meal, treat yourself and your family to a great time, good food and lots of fun.

  3. Nice job, Scott.

The first thing I thought of when I saw these was “They look like old 1960’s vacation photos”. Then I read that that was the look you were going for – LOL.

    Very interesting.

Scott replies: Great! Nice to know they actually do look like that to someone else.

  4. How well I remember our first stay at WL. My husband and I spent a fabulous week there in celebration of our 25th anniversary back in 2000. The kids stayed at home with my parents, so it really was a relaxing trip. And yes, it brought back great memories of a family trip to the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone we made a few years before. The attention to detail within the lodge and throughout the grounds evokes the very essence of the National Parks and lodges of the great Northwest. We were “wowed” from the moment we drove through the impressive gate. So much so, in fact, that we joined the
DVC that same week. We have stayed at DWL several times since and have never been disappointed!

Scott replies: It is nice to get away like that and the Wilderness Lodge is the perfect for it. Very relaxing place for couples to enjoy and reconnect.
