How to Upgrade Your Disney World Park Ticket to an Annual Pass

This morning, we got big Annual Pass news from Walt Disney World.

Big day for Annual Passholders!

We learned that Annual Passes will once again go on sale for Disney World, and there are some big changes to the options available. There are now just 4 different passes to choose from, and they got some price increases and slightly altered perks. But one big question you may be asking is — can I still upgrade my park ticket to an Annual Pass?

If upgrading your park tickets is something that you’re interested in, then good news — the answer is yes! According to Disney, eligible tickets may be upgraded to select pass types starting September 8th, done at a theme park ticket window, the Disney Ticket Center at Disney Springs, or on the phone line at 407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639).

You can upgrade to that pass!

Further down the road, guests will be able to upgrade their tickets online and through the My Disney Experience app, although that feature won’t be available just yet. Also, it’s important to note that for ticket upgrades, the monthly payment plan will only be available if done in person (and only for Florida residents).

You’ll need to upgrade in person for the time being.

Keep in mind that there are restrictions to which guests can purchase which passes. The top-tier pass, the Disney Incredi-Pass, is available for all guests and costs $1,299 plus tax. If you’re upgrading your ticket, the value of your ticket will be subtracted from the cost of the pass.

Florida Residents and DVC Members can upgrade to the Disney Sorcerer Pass, while only Florida Residents will have access to the Disney Pirate Pass and Disney Pixie Dust Pass. These new pass types will be available for purchase on September 8th, 2021 (keep in mind that some have blockout dates as well).

  1. I have ten days in December. Would love to move to an annual pass BUT then I lose 5 day park reservations during the busiest time of the year. Not sure if I could wait until day 5 of my trip? Will be interesting to see!

  2. The new passes are garbage. We loyal passholders are now losing perks such as photo pass and fast pass. It’s all been stripped down to “hey loyal passholders, you can pay all this money to make park reservations and get some discounts here and there while we take away the things that really made the pass worth it. Pretty sure we’re done when our renewal period comes next month.

    1. This is Disney math. It’s great that they are making everything a la carte. But, instead of pricing each perk separately and reducing the price of the base item (in this case an annual pass), Disney (and lot of readers on this site) believes it is saving you from a price increase by stripping out perks and keeping the price of the base item about the same. I’m amazed at the number of readers who are actually happy that people are being priced out and who feel that people who can’t afford to pay for these “perks” should be happy that they aren’t forced to. The Disney “force” is strong and able to bamboozle a lot of people. They know exactly what they are doing.
