The EMBARRASSING Skyliner Problem We Can’t Escape in Disney World

The Disney Skyliner is one of the most popular modes of transportation (and my personal favorite!).

Hello up there!

It’ll take you between a few different Disney World hotels, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT (and then you could take the Monorail from EPCOT to the TTC to Magic Kingdom) while giving you views of the resort. However, there’s ONE embarrassing problem that keeps happening to us that we just can’t get over.

It goes without saying, but when you’re traveling in the Skyliner, you’re up in the air, moving at a pretty decent pace. What does that mean? YOUR HAIR GOES FLYING.

Seriously, this may not seem like a big deal to some of you, but when you’ve spent an hour doing your hair and making it perfect to match your outfit and then it gets RUINED because of a 20 minute Skyliner ride? There is no greater pain (we’re being dramatic, there is, but it STILL HURTS).

Now, if you haven’t done your hair all special, you could make sure to bring a hair tie with you and just tie your hair up before you get on (pro tip: always keep some hair ties in your bag or on your arm!). However, if you have done your hair, what can you do to save it?

It’s not ideal, but use a jacket to cover your head gently. This will keep the wind from whipping it around and act as a shield. This works better in the winter or fall when you WANT a jacket with you in the parks, but you could also use a rain jacket or poncho in a pinch!

And there are plenty of other issues we run into on the Skyliner too that we feel should get an honorable mention:

  • Not using the bathroom first and being up there longer than expected, so then you have to awkwardly RUN to the nearest bathroom when you get off (and some aren’t close)
  • Hanging on for dear life as you watch the doors blow open a little bit from heavy wind (that one has happened to me personally — would not recommend)
  • Being stuck with a fighting family/group of friends OR being part of that group and having to apologize silently to the other people in the car (save the fights for outside, friends)

  1. I think the notion of having your hair rendered “less cute” should be in the back of any theme park guest at all times, because thrill rides, folks. Unless you’re the type of person who is more likely to wait with everyone’s stuff while the rest of your group has a wind-generating E-Ticket adventure, maybe don’t spend more time on your hair than necessary for an amusement park.

  2. I haven’t experienced the Skyliner yet, but can’t wait to do it. Hopefully in 2025 for my 40th birthday celebration

  3. This comment is nothing embarrassing. I wish they would play Disney music as you ride the Skyliner. It would make the ride more fun and get into the Disney spirit even more.
