Uh Oh. We Think People Have Started to Catch Onto Our Secret Disney World Crowd Hack.

One of our go-to Disney planning hacks might not be as effective as it once was!

If you’re visiting Disney World, chances are you’re likely going to experience crowds at some point during your vacation. From school breaks to holidays, it seems like there’s constantly something popping up that brings people to the parks en masse!

While you don’t have quite as much control over the crowds as you do over other portions of your vacation, there are still some things you can do to try to avoid the worst of the rush.

Of course, there’s the more obvious route of avoiding trips during typically busy times of the year, like spring break and the holiday season. But on top of that strategy, we used to have another hack in our back pocket to avoid the crowds, even during peak times of the year.

Crowds in Hollywood Studios

Occasionally, one of the Disney World parks will close earlier than it typically does to accommodate an after-hours event. As one example, in the fall, Magic Kingdom often closes several hours earlier than normal for regular ticket holders on days when there is a Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party scheduled at night.

Sometimes these early park closures are for specially ticketed events — like the above Halloween Party example — and sometimes they are for private events in which a group rents out the park for the evening.

Since the park hours are posted in advance, guests can see when a particular park has shorter hours than normal on an upcoming date. In the past, we’ve noticed that crowds have often been lighter at parks scheduled to close early, as many guests presumably opt to visit another park where they can spend a full day. So we often choose to visit parks with an early closing time to take advantage of the shorter lines.

This hack might not be the best choice for guests with single park tickets, since an early closure means your park day early as well. But for those with tickets that allow them to park hop, we loved using this hack to spend our morning and afternoon in a less crowded park, then hop over to another park for the evening.

But it looks like people might be catching on to that trend! We recently noticed that Disney Park Pass availability is sold out for ticket holders and hotel guests for June 5th at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

While that date might seem random at first glance, it turns out that Hollywood Studios will be closing early at 5:30PM on June 5th for the SAP Sapphire & ASUG Annual Conference Orlando. The group will have the park for its private event from 7:30PM to 11:30PM. Given the lack of availability for the park that day, it seems like lots of other people have discovered our hack as well!

We’ll keep an eye on what the crowds are actually like in Hollywood Studios on June 5th, so stay tuned to find out whether it seems like our hack still holds up!
