Disney has shared several times that they are interested in expanding their theme parks.
The company has plans to invest money into experiences that we can enjoy for years to come. Specifically, Disney has discussed expanding two Disney World parks — Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It has previously been confirmed that Dinoland U.S.A. was picked to get a re-theming, but a concept had not been solidified. Now, Disney has announced that they have officially decided on what will replace the dinosaur section of Animal Kingdom.
At a Walt Disney Imagineering media event, Disney shared that a concept has been decided on for DinoLand U.S.A.’s ret-theming. The last time we had heard about this expansion Disney was considering a Tropical Americas theme, potentially bringing in concepts from Encanto and Indiana Jones.Â
Now, it has been confirmed that the Tropical Americas are coming to Animal Kingdom! Disney has not confirmed the exact IP coming just yet though.
It turns out that Imagineers have been going on research trips to the Tropical Americas! They are checking out places like the pyramids in Mexico for inspiration. We expect that there is A LOT to see and learn to create new ideas.
No attractions have been confirmed at this point. We have seen some concept art in the past that showed what appears to be Casa Madrigal, but aside from that, we can only speculate what might show up in this new land. Since this is Animal Kingdom, we hope to see new species of animals native to the Tropical Americas. And the fact that the current Dinosaur ride has a similar track to the Disneyland Indiana Jones ride, makes us wonder if a similar ride could be coming to the East Coast.
It is exciting to finally have some confirmation on this new land! This is a big step, and we’re excited to keep following the progress. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more!
