Love the Fastpass system - I didn’t know much about it until a couple of weeks before we went, but still managed to get some decent fast passes ahead of time. I watch fast pass YouTube tutorials and read blogs etc and literllay became an expert before we went, there were two of us both adults visiting st a very busy time (around Presidents’ Day) - I loved the app (although it crashes quite a lot) and through perseverance managed to get all the fast passes I wanted. On the day we visited Magic Kingdom we managed an amazing 15 FastPass sea including Seven Dwarves and Peter Pan. We got 3 for Slinky and 2 Toy Story Mania on the same day, best of all we did flights of passage twice and could have had a third fast pass - the line was a crazy 225 minutes! Basically you need to read the blogs and hacks etc and as soon as you’ve swiped in on your third fast pass of the day get in the app and start refreshing! I generally managed to book the next fastpass for literally when we got off the ride we were in line for. The only gas pass I didn’t see come up more than once in a day was Frozen in Epcot but we still managed to do it once. The only downside which is why I knock a point off is if you aren’t mobile / cell phone / app savvy you are st a disadvantage.

Pros:

Walked straight on to 15 rides in a day in MK using FP+

Cons:

Need to be attached to your phone constantly refreshing for new FPs

We used the FastPass system yesterday on a trip to Magic Kingdom. We were unsure of what day we were to be able to go so we were walking in without anything booked until park opening. Of course the big attractions were not available (Seven Dwarfs, Splash Mountain, ect) but we were optimistic that we would still have plenty of ride opportunities thru the day even if we had to wait a bit. Well, we were wrong! All the wait times were astronomical and the park wasn’t even crazy crowded. The line attendees would let 2 or 3 families thru, and then literally 30 people with FastPass. Most wait times were 65-105 minutes! We have been going to Disney for 16 years now and have never experienced such an awful experience. Basically Disney punishes those who don’t plan their vacation weeks and weeks in advance and if you don’t commit to your day we’ll in advance, you’re likely to be spending your whole day in lines only to ride 6-7 rides. For over $100 a ticket, that’s pretty ridiculous. Also, with Florida’s unpredictability in weather, it use to be nice to move your park days around if rain chances went from 10% to 90% in 24 hours and you were facing huge downpours to continue to commit to your park day. If you’re going to give preference and privilege to those who book weeks in advance, give a ‘last minute trip’ customer a discount. We could not be any more disgusted with the new system and will definitely be looking into other attractions that more fairly treat their well paying customers.

Pros:

Wonderful experience if you’re game to plan every minute of your vacation weeks or months in advance and have zero flexibility in your time at the parks.

Cons:

No flexibility, no opportunity for decent wait times unless planned far in adavance.

We haven't been to Disney for a few years and this was our first experience with the new FastPass. We were incredibly disappointed with it. It makes visiting the parks stressful and we were constantly looking at our phones and watches. It takes away from the magic of the experience. I have been there at peak times before and I feel like it changed the flow of the lines and made it worse. I love Disney, but this was very poorly thought out.

Pros:

none

Cons:

I have been an Annual Pass holder for 6 years. I have tried at least 4-5 times a week to get a fast pass for Avatar since it opened. Since I can only get a fast pass 30 days in advance, they are all taken. The earliest I can get Toy Story is usually 2 - 3 PM. I will not be renewing my fast passes this year. Going to Universal as they provide premium pass holders with skip the line after 4 at no additional cost.

Pros:

Short line for 3 rides

Cons:

If not staying at a hotel, you can't get any good rides

I hate this horrible system. Disney came up with this system solely for their own benefit -squeeze more people into the park by spreading them out into attractions they don't really want to be in.

Unless you plan two months in advance, forget about riding your favorite attraction without a 2+ hour wait.

If you are a local AP holder, you can forget about enjoying last minute trips because FPs are not available.

Horrible horrible system

Pros:

Nothing

Cons:

Everything

I like to plan my vacation ahead of time but this is too much. I agree with the other posts. Between the FPs and the ADRs you are locked into one park and you spend the day running from one ADR to the first FP, to the next FP before your next ADR, etc. It has taken all the magic and fun away. Not being able to get another FP until your last one is used, then you need to find a kiosk and nothing is left anyway. I do not have a smart phone so changes are not that easy. I too, miss the old system.

Pros:

none

Cons:

no flexiblility

The bottom line is this system was designed to make you stay at Disney longer to get in all the main attractions - and just like a casino, the longer you stay at Disney, the more $$$ you give back to Disney.

Look at it this way...I'm an able bodied person, and if not me, the kids in my family are, or someone in our party is. In the old system, someone could collect everyone's tickets, run across the park and FP everyone at once at a popular attraction, and return to the group. We did this all day. 1 day at each park was enough, because we could FP almost everything and rarely had to wait in a line - so we were operating all day at optimal efficiency.

FP Plus is a Disney Trojan Horse. It is a business plan wrapped in a shiny wrapper. On the surface it looks great - you seemingly have control of your trip in the palm of your hands. Make FP plans, Dining Reservations, all with the app and magic band.

But it strips you of so many things. The tiered FP system means your are no longer as efficient as you could be. Want to make a change just on a whim, or due to weather, or just because? Well, those FP times are gone, along with all the others because people started booking those months ago.

Disney has crossed the line from the thrill and fun of planning a trip with your family, to now micro-managing your trip down to the minute. It's just no longer enjoyable. Gone are the days of getting everything in at 1 park on 1 day, and I guess that is the point.

Pros:

None. Old system was better.

Cons:

More time micro-managing trip, less time having fun

We had been Disney regulars a while back. We mastered the old FastPass experience by timing our location and hitting all the rides and using the FastPass to do it efficiently. This new way is terrible. Like the other reviewers, you have to have planned out your trip weeks in advance to get any great times. I was 28 days out to plan a trip to Magic Kingdom and all the times for the roller coasters were in the late afternoon or midnight. We are annual pass holders and like to hit the parks in the morning and leave by afternoon. I liked my FastPass printed out, not having to take a picture. You spend more time trying to select times, make adjustments later. I liked walking past the select rides that had the FastPass before, saw the time from a distance of when the FastPass ticket would be and then make my decision whether I wanted to do it or wait in line. We are just so disappointed with this.

Pros:

I guess less time waiting in a line

Cons:

Restrictive, not an efficient way to see the park

This was our 3rd trip (12-2-14 to 12-11-14) using the FP+ system. The 1st trip was when they were testing it so won't count this trip but the last two trips when the system has been live for everyone we have had problems. Mainly with switching our FP+ experience to another experience. This past time we decided we wanted to switch Test Track for Soarin' and my phone told me we could have the same time as our Test Track ride time but then once it did the final confirmation it was for a completely different time. I didn't realize this at 1st and went on to change another experience and again got a ride time that wasn't the same as what it told me I would get. I know the system tries to be smart and not book FP+ during dining reservations but it didn't take into account that we were doing the Candlelight Processional (had a dinner package) so it kept putting ride times into that time frame. In the end we spent about 45 min. with a Cast Member the next day at a kiosk trying to figure out what went wrong. Final the Cast Member told us that b/c we don't have an iPhone the system will tell us we can have the same time as the FP+ that we are trying to switch but then once it does the final confirmation and that time really isn't available it will pick another time for us and give us that time instead. The way around that was to not use the My Disney App but to log onto the disneyworld.com website and make the changes that way. So much for getting to use an app that is supposed to make your vacation easier.

There was one day where we were by a kiosk and we had used up our 1st three FP+ so DH got a 4th one and he was able to get most rides at the MK to pick from.

We also got a FP+ for The Frozen Sing Along and when we got there between our window they were already seating non-FP+ guests and so the seats were picked over and we were presented seats with a pole in our way. We wouldn't have had a problem with this had we been late for our window but we weren't so we saw no advantage to using a FP+ for that.

Pros:

When a ride went down we were allowed to us the FP+ on another ride (or that ride if it came back up) for the rest of the day

Cons:

System still isn't working correctly; no room for flexibility
