INTRODUCTION

Iago, the villainous parrot from Disney's animated feature "Aladdin," and Zazu, the bossy hornbill from "The Lion King," are the new landlords of the Magic Kingdom's Enchanted Tiki Room "Under New Management," located in Adventureland, just across from the Jungle Cruise.

ATTRACTION

William and Morris at the Tiki RoomPreshow — Before you enter the Tiki Room, you're treated to a few minutes of quips and wisecracks by the agents of the new show, the colorfully feathered William and Morris, voiced by comedians Don Rickles and the late Phil Hartman. Unfortunately, you have to stand during their shtick, but eventually the theater doors will open. Inside the dark and cool theater, you're seated on long, backless benches, with all the animatronic birds perched above.

The Enchanted Tiki Birds — If you saw this attraction before 1998, you'll remember original "cast members" Jose, Michael, Fritz and Pierre who still perform as part of the show. The almost 10-minute show starts with these original characters leading the other birds in the famously familiar tune, "In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room…"

After a few seconds of this familiar refrain, the birds' chorus is interrupted loudly by the loud-mouthed and boastful parrot Iago, voiced distinctively by comedian Gilbert Gottfried. He proclaims that as the new co-owner of the Tiki Room he's introducing a brand-new production. His co-owner, the stiff upper-lipped Zazu warns Iago that he might irk the tiki gods, but Iago forges ahead.

The tiki goddess of disaster, Uh Oa, erupts from the center of the room in a cloud of green mist, and she wreaks her revenge on Iago, hurling a lightning bolt his way, zapping him ominously.

The tiki gods perform a triumphant chant, and Iago reappears bandaged and on crutches. After declaring the tiki gods the greatest act he has ever heard, he joins Zazu and the rest of the Audio-Animatronics cast for a musical grand finale.

TOURING TIPS

The theater is quite dark, which may frighten some small children. Some children may find some scenes a bit scary or intense (see Kids and Characters, below).

Adventureland's opening times have been varying from the general park opening lately, according to attendance projections. Check your times guide to verify the Enchanted Tiki Room hours.

Guests using an ECV or a wheelchair may remain in it during this attraction.

Assistive Listening Devices from Guest Services can be used here.

KIDS AND CHARACTERS

This is really a very pleasant show geared to entertain all ages, but some young children may be afraid of the menacing goddess Uh Oa, and the deeply chanting tiki gods. The lights are dimmed during this portion of the show, and the lightning bolt can be quite loud.

Disney Characters are not usually found in this area of the park. Check your daily Times Guide for times and locations of other Character Meet and Greet opportunities throughout the Magic Kingdom.

INTERESTING FACTS

The original "Enchanted Tiki Room" debuted at Disneyland in California on June 23, 1963, and was the first attraction to use Audio-Animatronics technology.

The Walt Disney World version of the Tiki Room, called "Tropical Serenade," debuted October 1, 1971, and was originally sponsored by the Florida Citrus Growers.

The show closed in 1997, then reopened in 1998, as "The Enchanted Tiki Room: Under New Management."

The original group of Audio-Animatronics characters continue to star in the show including Jose, Michael, Fritz and Pierre. Walt Disney Imagineers had three of the four original actors re-record audio segments for the new show.

Actor Jerry Orbach, well-known as the voice of Lumiere in Disney's Beauty and Beast films, supplies the voice of the French parrot Pierre in this revamped version of the Tiki Room.

The voices of Jose, Michael, and Fritz are supplied, respectively, by Disney mainstays Wally Boag, Fulton Burley and Thurl Ravenscroft.

The show features 314 figures including flowers, statues and birds.

The attraction's well-known theme song, "In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room," was written, like many other Disney classics, by Richard and Robert Sherman.
